‘Wee hooses oot in the wilds’ have always fascinated me. There is something sad and lonely about a small derelict building sitting in the middle of nowhere. Some of these buildings were old shepherds dwellings no longer needed and some were the homes left behind when the Highland Clearances took place. Not all are left idle though. The Mountain Bothy Association maintains around 100 as shelters for anyone to use when out in these remote areas – rest for an hour or so or spend a night or two. This painting was the fourth in an ever growing and varied collection. Painting is signed bottom right.
